If you are unable to access the videos hosted in the application form you can find them below. Continue to upload your Stage 1 Audition films via the Jot form.
There are five sections to the application form:
– An introductory video from Principal and Artistic Director Amanda Britton with an overview of the process
– A ballet barre section featuring six exercises to film led by Ayumi Hikasa, Ballet Tutor at the School (in two videos)
– A contemporary phrase taught by Deputy Principal Darren Ellis (in two videos)
– The last video is a creative task set by Seke Chimutengwende, our improvisation tutor which includes lots of advice on how to approach it.
The tasks reflect our usual in person Stage One auditions and are designed with small spaces in mind, they do not rely on you have access to studios.
Please film from the front and refrain from editing parts of phrases or exercises together. You can edit each ballet exercise together to save file space. Do not worry about your filming skills if elements are occasionally out of shot, we will reach out to you if there’s anything we cannot see from your film. It does not matter if you’ve filmed the ballet section in a studio or different space to the creative task and many we have received so far are in kitchens, gardens and living rooms.
We would be delighted if applicants are still able to record and submit a video for all the content contained in the first stage digital submission form, but completely understand if in these current circumstances that may not be possible.
We would be happy for you to submit any existing ballet evidence you may already have in lieu of the ballet sections of the first stage digital audition (this could be video evidence of you performing a ballet solo, ballet class or ballet audition footage you had already prepared for other dance school/dance course applications you might be submitting) but request that you still complete Rambert School’s contemporary and creative tasks contained in our first stage digital submission form.
If you have any questions refer back to the Applications page or if you have any circumstances that make it difficult to film your audition please email admissions@rambertschool.org.uk
Key messages:
– We understand how difficult it has been to train and during lockdown or admidst COVID-19 restrictions so we have created a flexible process.
– We are not looking at your editing skills.
– You can film on your phone, tablet or laptop, whatever you happen to have.
– The process is quite short, there is a ballet class, two contemporary phrases and a creative class.
-We are looking for potential in students coming here and many come from very different backgrounds.
– Best of luck and we look forward to watching your digital submissions.
