Pre[pare]

APPLICATIONS CLOSED.

A year-long course for 11 – 17 year olds with raw talent and potential in dance, who may have had access to less dance opportunities.

Through a programme of ballet, conditioning, contemporary and creative classes, plus workshops in other dance styles, dancers will build a foundation of skill, knowledge and creativity to springboard onto pre-vocational training.

Focused classes will broaden participants understanding of ballet and contemporary dance, developing their confidence and bridging the gap to the next level of training.

Participants will immerse themselves in an open and engaging environment, exploring dance and creativity to connect to future pathways whilst discovering their individual voice.

Through individual mentoring, participants will be supported by our team of artists, nurturing their progression and guiding them to the next step.

We are particularly interested in working with young people who have experienced less opportunities in dance. We have bursaries and travel bursaries available to support participants in accessing the course.

Ballet

Digging deep into the foundations of technique in ballet, participants will develop their strength, coordination and confidence in approaching barre and centre work. As the class progresses, participants’ understanding of vocabulary will grow and they will begin to connect their technical development with more complex sequences.
Previous ballet experience is not required to take part in the course.

Contemporary

Through technical classes and creative work, participants will explore the possibilities of the body, finding a grounded centre that they can move from. As their confidence builds, participants will begin to explore the dynamic qualities of movement in both their own and taught material whilst developing their creative response.

We are looking for young dancers with enthusiasm, energy and a passion for dance. We are particularly interested in working with dancers who may have had less access to high quality dance opportunities.

We will welcome everyone that applies to a ‘get to know us’ workshop, providing an opportunity for you to get to know the school, and for us to get to know you and see if the course is the right fit. You will take part in both ballet and contemporary classes in the workshop day, but do not need experience in either style to take part.
