Conservatoire students report high satisfaction levels in 2018 National Student Survey

The results of the National Student Survey (NSS) have been announced today by the Office for Students. The Conservatoire continues to perform strongly in the survey, this year achieving 91% in overall satisfaction, well above the sector average (83%) and its institutional benchmark (80%).

The quality of teaching is highly rated by Conservatoire students, with 92% satisfied in this year’s survey – exceeding the sector average by 8%. The Conservatoire* – comprising member schools Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Central School of Ballet, London Contemporary Dance School, National Centre for Circus Arts, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, and affiliate schools LAMDA and RADA – was awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) in 2017.

Jason Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of the Conservatoire, said: “We are delighted that the Conservatoire is ranked among the leading performing arts institutions in the UK. The NSS results are a further endorsement of the fantastic work in learning and teaching across the schools, and the passion and commitment of our staff in preparing these young artists to enter their professions. We wish our 2018 graduates every success as they embark upon the next phase of their careers.”

Giorgia Pirozzi, BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance Graduate 2018, London Contemporary Dance School: “You will be surrounded by amazing people that will feed you and take care of you. Trust yourself and people around you; you have no idea what is going to happen, and this journey will be life-changing, so be available as much as you can.”

The NSS offers an annual opportunity to review the student experience in conjunction with other feedback and student engagement activities. The Conservatoire will use the survey to identify areas for further improvement and enhancement, and is committed to maintaining its world-leading standards of teaching in dance, drama, circus arts and technical theatre.
