Fresh Friday with Anthony Matsena

Fresh Friday with Anthony Matsena

We are delighted to welcome Anthony Matsena, one of next year’s commissioned choreographers, to our studios this week for Fresh Friday. Ahead of teaching our third years next year, Anthony will today focus on bringing workshops to our second and third year students as a break to their usual curriculum.

Anthony describes himself as ‘Zimbabwean-born and Welsh-raised’ and is a choreographer, performer and director working in mediums of dance, theatre, music and poetry. His work often follows themes race, culture and duality as he explores his Afrocentric house and Eurocentric schooling. His works are politically charged and critically acclaimed.

Anthony co-founded Matsena Productions with his brother Kel as a reaction to the lack of representation for African dancers and their stories. Matsena Productions use different skills combining dance styles together such as African dance, hip-hop, contemporary and poetry.

We are so pleased Anthony can join us today ahead of working with our students next year. We are excited to see what this workshop will produce.
