The Sarah Rubidge Annual Research Award

Rambert School Research (RSR) are delighted to announce the Sarah Rubidge Research Award for outstanding research in dance practice and scholarship.
The award is set up to acknowledge excellence in research and to support the development and dissemination of research conducted by Rambert School Students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and recent graduates (up to one year after graduation).
Every year, Rambert School BA and MA students complete independent research projects on a selected topic that relates to dance practice and/or scholarship.
This award has been developed to acknowledge and celebrate outstanding achievement in dance research within our student community, and to support financially and through bespoke mentorship the expansion of the project and its broader dissemination into the wider dance sector.
Each year, up to two awards will be presented to outstanding submissions and each successful recipient will receive £2000 in order to advance and disseminate their research during the year immediately following their nomination.
Research Award Criteria
Recipients of the award will be nominated by individuals associated with the School who consider the researcher/s worthy of application for a Sarah Rubidge Research Award.
The successful applicant/s will be selected on a case-by-case basis by a sub-committee of the Research, Knowledge Exchange and Ethics Committee which will include members external to the institution.
Eligibility
Nominees must have as established relationship with Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary dance as:
Students (BA hons or MA)
Recent graduates (up to 1 year)
The researchers’ outputs can be sited in any art form, interdisciplinary or disciplinary framework and take the form of any of the following:
• Academic writing and scholarly article formats
• Performative presentations (including performances/exhibitions/lecture-demonstrations/ workshop series/digital artworks developed using choreographic thinking)
• Material contributions to the development of the researcher’s local dance/arts community
• Textual formats (Articles/books/guidelines/handbooks for practitioners)
• Innovative Expanded Choreographic Practices, including those taking form in digital formats
Criteria include:
• Outstanding innovative research in the researcher’s chosen research field which meet the highest professional standards in their arena of practice and scholarship
• The impact of the research on the researcher’s professional development
• The quality of the impact of the research on the researchers’ local dance/arts ecology
• The potential of the submitted research activity/activities becoming an outstanding contribution to the wider dance community
• The development of innovative modes of presentation and dissemination of research
