Stateside Alumni Success

After the Christmas holidays we hope you are all feeling rejuvenated and energised, and with this in mind we wanted to share what’s inspiring us this January.  We’ll shortly be heading to warmer climes in February as we embark on our next wave of overseas auditions for our degree.  While we are on the look out for our centenary cohort we thought we would share some of the adventures of our stateside alumni following their Rambert School training.  These select few of US based alumni highlight the diversity of journeys that can follow on from training.

Introducing:

Warren Adams

Award Winning Producer, Choreographer, Director and Professor

Warren was born and raised in South Africa and was awarded the first Nelson Mandela/Sainsbury scholarship to study at the Rambert School.  He went on to graduate in 1996 from Rambert School and began building an impressive CV which took his career to the US.

His theatre and film credits are substantial including Broadway productions with Disney including Associate Choreographer for Lion King and work with dance companies including Ballet Met and Phoenix Dance Theatre.  His work has taken him international including Europe, Africa, Australia, the UK and the USA.   Warren was the first recipient of the Rudolf Nureyev Award in Europe and he serves as an Adjunct Professor at NYU and Princeton University.  Having produced and performed Warren is currently Motown the Musical’s resident choreographer back in London in the West End.

Lloyd Mayor

Soloist Martha Graham Company

Lloyd Mayor was born in Geneva, Switzerland and trained at Rambert School. At 17 he then moved to New York City to pursue is dream of being in the Graham Company and joined the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in 2011. The following year Mr. Mayor joined the main company. Lloyd Mayor has danced lead roles in the Graham repertoire, including Appalachian Spring, Diversion of Angels and Embattled Garden.  In 2014, Mr. Mayor was honoured with the Clive Barnes Dance Award and is now a board member of the Foundation. For the Company’s 90th anniversary in April 2016, Lloyd danced an excerpt of Appalachian Spring with former Étoile and Artistic Director of the Paris Opera Ballet, Aurélie Dupont.

Zaylin Cano

Broadway Skills, Contemporary, & Pilates Instructor

Zaylin Elleni Cano began her dance training with the Inland Pacific Ballet Academy and Lines Ballet of San Francisco and then to Rambert School.  During her training she worked with teachers in direct connection to Nureyev, Fredrick Aston, and Martha Graham, and at Phoenix Dance Theatre. Since graduating she has toured professionally and performed internationally in full length classical ballets, neo-classical works, contemporary/modern works, Musical Theatre, jazz and tap pieces, and with cruise lines.  Most recently Zaylin was thrilled to become a part of the production team at the California Theatre for their 2016-2017 season.
