Kio Tomiyama was born in Japan and started her classical ballet training in Ichikawa and later in Tokyo from the age of six. In 1993, she moved to the UK and continued her studies at Rambert School.
From 1996 to 2002, she danced professionally with contemporary and ballet companies in Japan. In 2002, she took a Pilates Teacher Training Course at Alan Herdman Studios in London and since then has been teaching at Alan Herdman Studios, Chelsea Harbour Club, the Royal Academy of Dance, Millennium Dance 2000 and many other Pilates studios. She also has a diploma (BCNH) in Nutrition Therapy.
In 2005, Kio started teaching Pilates at Rambert School and since then has become an integral part of the Screening, Treatment and Rehabilitation Unit at the School. Kio teaches Pilates, Body Conditioning, injury prevention and monitors the students injury rehabilitation and management. Kio is also part of the Student Support team.
