Spotlight: Robert Dunkley-Gyimah, Second Year Student
28th December 2022
Our next FD/BA student taking a step into the Rambert School spotlight is Robert Dunkley-Gyimah. Robert is Second Year at Rambert School and was a BBC Young Dancer of the Year Finalist of 2022.
Q – What is your favourite thing about Rambert School?
A – My favourite thing at Rambert School has got to be the training itself and the teachers who are responsible for it. Not only is it amazingly challenging, but it’s also the most supportive environment in which I’ve felt I’ve really grown. I also really love ‘Fresh Fridays’.
Q – Can you tell our readers a little more about ‘Fresh Fridays’ at Rambert School?
A – Now that I’m in 2nd year I am fortunate enough to get to experience a programme called ‘Fresh Fridays’. This is where the school bring in an external artist or choreographer each week to do a workshop with the 2nd and 3rd years. It’s so nice to be exposed to so many different creatives so frequently.
Q – Robert, can you share something that we may not know about you?
A – Something some people don’t know about me is that I wanted to be an actor, before a dancer, as I was so unsure about what the dance world was like – but now I’m glad I’ve made the right decision!
Q – What’s your New Year’s resolution?
A – My new year’s resolutions are firstly to pay even closer attention to the development of my strength and technique training so I can excel even further. And secondly to work on more projects. I hope to make more choreography and visuals in the coming year to start really making a mark within the dance scene.
