Where are they now? Reflections on the impact Rambert School students make post-graduation.
The dynamic nature of the dance profession means it is important for us to reflect on our most recent graduates working in the industry today, and also the notable alumni from our almost 100 year history, to ensure that we are equipping our current students with the essential skills they will need to embark on a career in the industry.
The training at Rambert School focuses on the individual and provides students with the skills they need to approach the ever-changing industry and hone their craft. Throughout their training our dancers work with guest practitioners, choreographers and artists who provide invaluable industry insight and give workshops on, among other things, career development and audition technique. Final year students also work with a host of leading choreographers commissioned to create new works on them. Experiencing such a wide array of creative disciplines and making invaluable industry connections prepares our students for their next steps in the profession.
The exceptional technical ability of our students and diversity of their choices is reflected in the wide variety of international companies that they progress on to.
Other companies our graduates have danced with include: Mark Bruce Company, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, BalletBoyz, New Adventures, Ballet Black, Akram Khan Company, Sydney Dance Company, NDT2, Cullberg Ballet, Michael Clark Company, English National Ballet, Tokyo Ballet, Seoul Ballet and Boston Ballet. During their time at the School, current students, also have the opportunity to work on placements with leading dance companies and projects, such as BBC Young Dancer, New Adventures, Phoenix Dance Theatre and BalletBoyz.
Our graduates have also formed their own companies, expanded into arts outreach work, performed in theatre productions, danced commercially and worked as choreographers, academics, educators journalists, artistic directors and producers. Our alumni keep a close relationship with the School, returning as associated artists to create new pieces, develop new talent and collaborate. Rambert School has commissioned new works from graduates Jason Mabana, Charlotte Edmonds and Julie Cunningham this year and will also perform repertoire of longstanding alumni Christopher Bruce.
