Rambert School heads to USA and Mexico
30th August 2024
Following his recent international trip to the USA and Mexico, we caught up with Rambert School’s Contemporary Dance Tutor, Jason Mabana.
After wrapping up a busy semester, I headed off to Mexico and the US to lead a series of classes, workshops and performances designed to give students an insight into the training at Rambert School. l was accompanied by recent graduates; Robert Dunkley-Gyimah, Ciar Wild and Samuel Shterenlikht.
In Miami, we were hosted by the Miami Dance Project and taught workshops for young dancers at Tampa City Ballet. We also performed as part of the International Ballet Festival of Miami.
We then travelled to Mexico, where we performed at the Lila Lopex Festival in San Luis Potosi. Ciar, Rob and Sam performed a piece I created called Be No End To, and a work called Blurring Realities which was made with choreographer Fernando Dominguez.
The trip was an incredible experience enjoyed by us all. I have had the pleasure of teaching Ciar, Rob and Sam for the past three years at Rambert School. Watching their journeys from first year, to graduate dancers and artists who themselves are now teaching and leading other dancers, as well as creating their own work with internationally acclaimed choreographers, has been one of the privileges of this trip.
Having been a student, I have been teaching at Rambert School for a number of years. I thoroughly enjoy teaching such a wide variety of students, and having the opportunity to take Rambert School to different corners of the world through my travels. It is incredibly exciting to meet a variety of dancers from different cultures, pathways and background and watch us connect through the joy of dance.
