Matsena Productions – commissioned choreographers 2022/23

We are thrilled to announce Matsena Productions as our final commissioned choreographers for 2022/23.  Anthony Matsena and Kel Matsena will embark on the creation process with final year students this week.

Matsena Productions is a performance company, focused on the entirety of movement through the use of different performative arts. The company was founded by Anthony Matsena and Amukelani Matsena. 

Born in Bulawayo and brought up in Swansea, the brothers lead the company as co-artistic Directors. Having an upbringing rooted in traditional African dancing and a strong background in different styles of hip-hop and krump, they merge contemporary movements together to give performance a whole new meaning. Strongly moved by aspects of theatre, poetry and writing, recent work has drawn national and international attention. Shades of Blue was dubbed one of The Guardian’s Best Dance for 2022 after receiving critical acclaim during its performances at Sadler’s Wells in the Spring. The company’s work has toured extensively throughout the UK and was more recently part of GALWAD on SkyArts which reached over 5 million people through its live and online events.
