Summer Sessions ‘23 – Connecting ACROSS Practices is the inaugural dance knowledge exchange and workshop event of Rambert School in collaboration with DANSOX.

Friday 21st July 2023 from 12 noon – Sunday 23rd July 2023 till 2pm

Are you a dance artist, dance researcher, practitioner scholar, student, performer, maker, facilitator, teacher, dance lover or any combination of the above, interested in engaging in meaningful and thought-provoking sessions about how we make, teach or share dance in its multitude of manifestations? 

Are you interested in reflecting on how our dance practices can be open, inclusive and question normative assumptions about the ways in which we create and engage in dance?

Join Rambert School Summer Sessions to explore how we connect and create in and through dance, and hold open, inclusive spaces within different dance contexts. 

WHEN: Friday 21st July 2023 from 12 noon – Sunday 23rd July 2023 till 2pm

WHERE: Jacqueline du Pré Music Building (St Hilda’s College) University of Oxford, Cowley Pl, Oxford OX4 1DY

WHAT: A creative weekend of workshops, talks, lecture demonstrations and provocations focusing on connection, innovation and inclusive practices within dance making, teaching and performance.You can participate for free in all the sessions and engage physically (where relevant) or as an observer throughout the three days. This is a free event, with an optional donation fee.

Topics will include:

Innovating dance pedagogy

Inter-cultural teaching practices

Un-gendering ballet

Creative Audio Description

Creating Inclusive (dance) environments

Queer(ing) Dance

Inclusivity within Dance Teaching

Rambert Grades and inclusive pedagogy

Keynote presentation will be delivered by Dance Historian Jane Pritchard (V&A)

WHO: Dance practitioners and scholars from a range of backgrounds and practices.A diverse range of practitioners and scholars working within dance in different capacities will lead a practical session, a talk or a provocation relating to how we connect across our various practices and explore aspects of diversity and inclusion, queering ways of doing, teaching and sharing dance in its multitude of forms.Practitioners and Scholars include:

Paul Clarke – Ballet practitioner and teacher (Rambert School)

Stuart Waters – Dance Artist

Willie Elliott – Actor and Audio Describer

Holly Thomas – Visually Impaired Artist

Thomas Page – Dance Artist and Producer

Fraser Buchannan – Independent Dance Artist and Queer Producer

Arran Green – Dance Artist and Teacher (Rambert School)

Sarah Pickthall – Diversity and Inclusion specialist and Leadership Coach
