Fresh Fridays with Kim Jones

Kim Jones is a choreographer, dancer from New York.  Kim danced with the Martha Graham Company from 2001 – 2006 and will be teaching our students company repertoire as part of this week’s Fresh Fridays.  Her time with the company also involved collaborations, re-imaginings, re-stagings of repertoire and continued research on the process of these re-workings.

*Kim Jones is the current UNC Charlotte Resident Director at Kingston University in London

*Other notable achievements include performing with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet and she also toured with the King and I in 2005 as a Principal dancer on the US National tour.

*She is an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

*Jones has not only performed as a dancer internationally but also performed choreography worldwide.

*Kim Jones describes her choreography as examining  ‘the dance aesthetics of the past in order to show their significance to the evolving art of dance.  My  choreographic endeavors preserve and extend the historical legacy of early American modern dance and its relevance to contemporary dance today’

*She formed Movement Migration a dance company in 2018, a group of dance artists from four decades with international experience.  Read about Kim’s previous visit for our second years in the autumn term to discuss the company’s approach.
