Fresh Friday with Russell Maliphant

To close the final Fresh Friday of the term we are thrilled to have renowned choreographer Russell Maliphant joining us today. Russell trained at the Royal Ballet School and forged a career in dance after working with Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet company. Russell has worked with companies such as DV8, Michael Clark and Rosemary Butcher. He has created twenty pieces of choreography, so far, and often works closely with the technical team to achieve the best result for his work. This includes working with lighting designed Michael Hulls and companies such as Lyon Opera Ballet, Ricochet Dance Company, The Batsheva Ensemble and Ballet de Lorraine. Russell Maliphant and Michael Hulls are both Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells.

In 1996 Russell Maliphant founded Russell Maliphant Dance Company which has since won two Olivier awards, three South Bank Show awards and three Critics’ Circle National Dance awards for best modern choreography and one for best independent company, amongst many other national and international awards and nominations. We are so excited for our students to learn from a truly world leading and award winning company.

Russell Maliphant’s work is characterised by a unique approach to flow and energy and an ongoing exploration of the relationship between movement, light and music.
