Fresh Friday with Liam Francis

Rambert School was excited to have Liam Francis join us for Fresh Friday last week. Every Friday our second and third years experience a guest teacher to round out their week. This encourages their dance styles to develop by exposing them to different choreographers, practitioners and artists.

Liam Francis joined Rambert company in 2014 having previous danced with Zoo Nation Dance Company and London Studio Centre. Francis describes his Rambert career highlight as working on ‘Goat’ which was nominated for an Olivier award. Francis’ work spans many genres including commercial dance and TV programming. In 2015 he represented the UK as the European Newcomer of the year in Tanz magazine’s International Critics’ Survey.

Francis loves to investigate his own creative process throughout his dance language and is excited to investigate issues related to contextual resonances in written work. He considers himself to be somebody ‘obsessed with identity’ and breaking out of roles people are put in. His work explores how other people’s associations of you can make you feel and how dancers are often expected to supress their individuality when, in his opinion, ‘it is actually their most important asset’.
