Fresh Friday with Kennedy Junior Muntanga

Today, we welcome Kennedy Junior Muntanga to the school’s Fresh Friday workshops. Kennedy is a Rambert School Alumnis and is now Artistic Director of Kennedy Muntanga Dance Theatre.

Kennedy Junior Muntanga, born and raised in Zambia, is a dancer and choreographer. Moving to Leeds (UK) at the age of 7, Kennedy’s passion for movement grew from his strong connection to Michael Jackson, in which he would choreograph short dances and host little competitions against his sister and friends. The reverence to dance was already embedded in him through his African heritage and has been an anchor and life line for him, and so Kennedy furthered his training and graduated in Ballet and Contemporary at the Rambert School in July 2019.

Before devoting himself to choreography, Kennedy danced for companies such Akram Khan Company, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Humanhood, Robert Cohan CBE, Michael Keegan-Dolan, Alesandra Seutin, Raman Schlemmer and many more. He is also Artistic Director of Trinity Laban’s Youth Dance Company and was a rehearsal director at ACE Dance and Music.

What can students expect?

KMDT’s class is a dynamic space where dancers explore the incredible capabilities of the human body. It is perfect for those who see themselves as curious adventurers, blending scientific precision with artistic flair. With a focus on coordination, speed, expression, and the thrill of experimentation, participants are inspired by Kennedy’s understanding of the innovative approaches of renowned choreographers like Forsythe, Van Dijk, Khan, Kapetanea, and Frucek. Kennedy’s philosophy celebrates dance as a tool for understanding our humanity in a fun and engaging way.
