The MA Professional Dance Performance is awarded and validated by the University of Kent. Students who are selected for this MA programme receive financial support equivalent to the London Living Wage and, whilst on placement, are based at Rambert’s home on London’s South Bank.

This course offers students a year of training at postgraduate level while forming part of Rambert2, a pioneering ensemble created to bring together dancers with outstanding ability, creativity and individuality. Students on the programme create and tour world-class contemporary dance whilst in placement with the Rambert2 ensemble at Rambert (the internationally renowned dance company), and simultaneously develop their individual creative and reflective dance practice, gaining a professional postgraduate qualification.

“Rambert School is thrilled to offer this unique programme. MA students will be encouraged to integrate embodied and theoretical research to complete their MA in Professional Dance Performance and will emerge as highly employable reflective practitioners.”

Amanda Britton, Principal and Artistic Director Rambert School.

In delivering this programme, Rambert School together with Rambert Company as the professional placement provider, are able to provide an exceptional level and breadth of teaching and performance opportunities, plus learning/enhancement of professional research skills, all informed by both practice and research from the forefront of the dance profession.  Students will discover how to work beyond their perceived limits of technical ability (and endurance), while deepening their own creative and interpretative style and developing a sense of artistic ownership of the work they will perform and/or create.

Rambert2’s 2019/20 ensemble performed work by international choreographers Andrea Miller, Jermaine Spivey, Damien Jalet and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui at venues around the UK, including at Sadler’s Wells in London.

The MA Professional Dance Performance programme is currently open to UK/EU/EEA students only.  Dancers who are not eligible for the MA Professional Dance Performance, or who are interested in dancing with Rambert2 and are eligible but do not wish to complete the postgraduate qualification, may instead undertake a year’s ‘direct membership’ of the Rambert2 ensemble alongside students on the programme, exposing them to a ‘mixed currency’ company membership involving rigorous intellectual interrogation of the art form and creative process.  This unique composition of the ensemble provides an edifying environment within which members can develop and drive forward their own artistic practice.
