Commissioned choreographers 2024/2025: Julian Nichols

We’re excited  to reveal the third choreographer joining our lineup of six incredible artists collaborating with our third-year students. Acclaimed choreographer and artist Julian Nichols is diving in with Rambert School students to explore their versatility across various dance styles.

Julian Nichols, a dedicated Canadian-Italian choreographer and dancer, founded Bodies in Action in 2021. His mission is to create striking contemporary dance works while representing all identity’s equally. Julian’s work has been recognised and supported by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Community Fund.  Some of his notable works include IT’S MY BIRTHDAY, The Problem, and the award-winning dance film Creature. Julian has taught company classes for Rambert Dance Company, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, NDC Wales & Corey Baker Dance. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Purchase College Conservatory of Dance, where he graduated cum laude, focusing on ballet, modern, and improvisation.

Julian has danced for the Limón Company, The Paris Opera, Nimbus Dance & Human Body Expression amongst others. Julian has performed works by internationally recognized choreographers including Aszure Barton, Tom Weinberger, Jose Limón, Brian Brooks, Kyle Abraham, Darryl Tracy, Allen Kaeja, Rosalind Newman, Emily Molnar, Alexander Whitley, Carol Anderson, Fanny Ghoreyab, Hanna Kiel, Maxine Doyle, and Roy Assaf.

Julian says: “I’m excited to get to know and collaborate with the third-year students at the Rambert School. Their curiosity and commitment to their practice and artistry are truly inspiring. As we work together, I will be developing my own material while encouraging them to explore and push the boundaries of their physicality and relationships with one another. Although I have a specific idea in mind, I anticipate that it will evolve as I engage with this talented group of creators. My goal is to foster a positive, welcoming, and focused environment, where open conversation and hard work drive us toward collaborative success that benefits everyone involved.”
